Situational Awareness In An Emergency for Kids (Ages 6–16)
Empowering Children to Stay Safe, Alert, and Ready to Act
At IC&M CPR, we believe that situational awareness training for children is just as important as learning math or science. Designed for children ages 6 to 16, our emergency preparedness training teaches students how to recognize danger, stay calm, and respond effectively in a wide range of emergency situations—whether at school, home, or in the community.
Our program combines age-appropriate lessons, hands-on activities, and real-world scenarios to build confidence, quick-thinking skills, and a strong safety mindset in kids and teens.
Why Situational Awareness Matters
In today’s world, situational awareness for kids is a crucial life skill. Being able to observe surroundings, identify potential threats, and know when to take action can make all the difference in a dangerous or emergency situation.
Our training helps children:
Recognize and avoid potentially harmful situations
Understand safe vs. unsafe environments
Make confident decisions under pressure
Communicate effectively with trusted adults
Develop life-saving skills that promote personal and group safety
Teaching Kids to Take Action Using the Red Cross “Check, Call, Care” Method
We incorporate the American Red Cross’s proven “Check, Call, Care” approach into all emergency response training:
✅ Check
Children learn to assess the scene and determine if it is safe to approach. They’re taught to look for hazards (fire, traffic, dangerous people) and check for responsiveness in a person needing help.
📞 Call
Kids are trained to call 9-1-1 or alert an adult immediately. We teach how to clearly explain what happened, where they are, and what help is needed.
❤️ Care
While waiting for help, children learn simple ways to provide care such as:
Comforting an injured person
Avoiding moving someone who is hurt
Providing basic first aid if age-appropriate (for older children)
This practical method ensures that kids understand the importance of acting safely, quickly, and responsibly in any emergency.
